This document systematically analyzes and resolves common EXE client installation failures for PrivateDLP Pro and USB Disk Security Standard on Windows endpoints. Different from kernel-level security software, our client runs entirely inuser mode and does not initiate active conflicts with third-party antivirus, endpoint protection, or system security software. Almost all installation errors stem from passive system restrictions, false positive intercepts, version residual conflicts, and abnormal system environments rather than program incompatibility. This guide summarizes core faulty scenarios including security software false alarms and old version overlay installation exceptions, and supplements other mainstream installation failure causes with targeted step-by-step solutions for end users and IT administrators.

1. Core Installation Failure Scenarios & Solutions

The software operates completely in user mode without occupying system kernel resources or competing with third-party security programs for system permissions. The following two issues account for over 90% of routine installation failures.

1.1 Antivirus & Security Software False Positive Interception

Failure Cause: The EXE installer and client program contain file synchronization, screenshot analysis, and USB file transfer logging modules. Some mainstream antivirus software, Windows Defender, and endpoint security tools may misjudge these legitimate data auditing and device monitoring functions as risky behaviors, resulting in automatic interception, installer quarantine, or forced termination of the installation process. This is a typical false positive and does not indicate abnormal software behavior.

Symptoms: Installer crashes midway, no error prompt but installation exits automatically, installation file disappears after running, or system prompts “operation blocked by security program”.

Solutions

  • Temporary security policy adjustment: Temporarily turn off the real-time protection function of Windows Defender and third-party antivirus software before installation; restore all protection settings immediately after the client installation is completed.

  • Whitelist addition (permanent fix): Add the official EXE installer directory and the installed client program installation path to the antivirus software and system security whitelist to eliminate persistent false positive interception for subsequent use and version upgrades.

  • Recover quarantined files: If the installer is automatically quarantined, restore the file from the security software’s quarantine library and re-run the installation program with normal privileges.

1.2 Old Version Residual & Version Overlay Installation Errors

Failure Cause: When the device has any historical version of USB Disk Security or PrivateDLP client installed (including Standard/Pro trial and official versions), residual registry entries, local configuration files, and background service residues may cause overlay installation failure. The system will pop up a version conflict prompt to prevent repeated installation errors.

Symptoms: Installation program pops up “existing program version detected” prompt, installation cannot proceed, or the process rolls back automatically after starting installation.

Solutions (Dual Optional Schemes)

  • Scheme 1: Direct Overlay Upgrade (Recommended): The new version client supports intelligent overlay installation and incremental upgrade for all old versions. When the conflict prompt appears, click “Install Overlay” or “Upgrade Directly” in the pop-up window. The installer will automatically retain valid user configurations, license binding information and historical audit logs, and complete version iteration normally.

  • Scheme 2: Clean Uninstallation & Reinstallation: If overlay installation fails due to abnormal residual files, enter the Windows system application list, completely uninstall the old client version, restart the device to clear residual background processes and registry cache, then re-run the new version EXE installer for a clean installation.

2. Other Common Installation Failure Causes & Complete Solutions

In addition to the above two core scenarios, user-mode client installation failures may also be triggered by system environment anomalies, file exceptions, permission restrictions, and network problems. The detailed causes and targeted fixes are as follows.

2.1 Corrupted or Incomplete Installer Package

Cause: Incomplete installer download due to network fluctuations, file damage caused by disk bad sectors, or tampered third-party installation packages lead to installation program parsing failure and runtime errors.

Symptoms: Double-clicking the installer has no response, prompts “installer parsing error”, “invalid Win32 application”, or crashes immediately after startup.

Solution: Delete the existing damaged installer file, clear the browser download cache, re-download the official EXE installer from the official product page, and verify the file integrity. Do not use unofficial shared or modified installation packages.

2.2 Insufficient Local Operation Permissions

Cause: Although the client runs in user mode, the installation process requires basic system read-write permissions to write program files and register system shortcuts. Standard user accounts with limited privileges will cause installation failure.

Symptoms: Installation terminates with “access denied” prompt, fails to write files to the installation directory, or the installation process gets stuck at 0%/100%.

Solution: Right-click the EXE installer and selectRun as administrator to start the installation program. Avoid running the installer under guest accounts or restricted standard user accounts.

2.3 Invalid Installation Path & Special Character Path Error

Cause: Custom installation paths containing Chinese characters, special symbols, spaces, or non-English characters may cause the user-mode program to fail to load configuration files after installation, resulting in installation rollback.

Symptoms: Installation completes but the client cannot be launched, or the installation process prompts “file path error” and exits.

Solution: Use the system default English installation path during installation. If a custom path is required, ensure the path only contains English letters, numbers and underscores, without special symbols, Chinese characters or redundant spaces.

2.4 Abnormal Windows Installer Service

Cause: The Windows Installer service is disabled or abnormal, resulting in the system unable to parse and execute EXE installation packages, which is a common system-level anomaly.

Symptoms: Pop-up “error launching installer” prompt, all EXE program installation fails, or installation service cannot be started.

Solution: Press Win+R to open the run window, enter services.msc to open the service list, find Windows Installer, set its startup type to automatic, start the service manually, and re-run the installer after repairing the system service.

2.5 System Temporary File Cache Overflow

Cause: A large number of invalid temporary files in the Windows system cache directory occupy disk resources, interfering with the temporary file decompression and execution of the installer.

Symptoms: Installation decompression fails, process freezes, or prompts “insufficient disk space” with remaining disk capacity.

Solution: Press Win+R, enter %temp% to open the system temporary folder, delete all invalid temporary files, clean up disk junk files, and restart the device before reinstalling.

2.6 Network Abnormity Leading to License Pre-Verification Failure

Cause: The installer needs network connection to complete environment verification and trial license pre-detection during installation. Disconnected network or unstable network proxy will cause installation termination.

Symptoms: Installation gets stuck at network verification step, prompts “network connection timeout”, or fails to bind console after installation.

Solution: Ensure stable and normal internet access on the device, turn off network proxy and VPN tools temporarily during installation, and retry the installation after restoring normal network connection.

3. Final Installation Verification

After resolving the above faults and completing the installation, launch the client normally, enter the license configuration page to check the program running status, and log in to the web management console to verify that the endpoint device is online and successfully bound, ensuring all functions are available normally.

4. Summary

Since the client adopts pure user-mode operation architecture, there is no essential conflict with mainstream security software. Almost all installation failures are caused by security software false positives, old version residual conflicts, system environment anomalies and operational errors. Users can quickly locate and fix problems according to the above classification, and priority is recommended to eliminate false positive interception and version conflict issues to complete efficient deployment.
