Windows Client Trial & Activation Guide

Usage & Deployment Guides

This guide focuses exclusively on the trial registration and license activation workflow for Windows endpoints installed via the EXE package for both USB Disk Security (Standard Edition) and PrivateDLP (Pro Edition). It elaborates on mandatory administrator account pre-registration, step-by-step 15-day full-feature trial activation, and official license activation operations for small-scale and individual device deployment. In addition, it clearly distinguishes the activation mechanism of the enterprise MSI installation package, which supports automatic server connection and license activation without manual operation. This document is applicable for enterprise IT administrators and individual users evaluating or officially activating the client software.

1. Overview

USB Disk Security and PrivateDLP provide two mainstream installation and activation modes for Windows clients, with completely different activation logic for EXE and MSI installers:

  • EXE Installer (Trial & Small-scale Official Use): Suitable for device trial evaluation and small-batch deployment. It requires enterprise administrators to complete web console account registration in advance, and manually initiate trial activation or official license activation on the client side to bind the device to the enterprise management console.

  • MSI Installer (Enterprise Official Deployment): Exclusively provided for paid enterprise customers. The pre-authorized MSI package is embedded with enterprise license information. After silent installation via AD domain or manual deployment, the client will automatically connect to the official server, complete license verification and console binding without any manual activation operation.

The EXE trial version unlocks all full functions of the corresponding software edition, with no functional difference from the officially activated version during the valid period.

2. Pre-Activation Mandatory Preparation

2.1 Enterprise Administrator Account Registration

Before activating any EXE client trial or official license, the enterprise administrator must complete web console account registration and login first. This account is the unified management entry for all endpoint devices and license resources of the enterprise.

  1. Access the official management console login address: https://privatedlp.com/dashboard/login

  2. Click Sign in with Google on the login page;

  3. If the browser has logged in to a valid Google account in advance, the system will automatically complete registration and one-click login to the enterprise background management console;

  4. After successful login, the administrator obtains enterprise device management, policy configuration, license management and audit query permissions.

Note: All EXE client trial and activation operations must use the Google email account registered by the enterprise administrator to complete binding.

2.2 Basic Environmental Prerequisites

  • Windows operating system: Windows 7/10/11, Windows Server 2016 and above;

  • Local administrator privileges on the target endpoint;

  • Stable internet access for client-server communication, trial verification and license activation;

  • Completed EXE client installation (refer to EXE Client Installation Guide for specific installation steps).

3. EXE Client 15-Day Full-Feature Trial Activation Process

This process is applicable to users who need to evaluate the full functions of USB Disk Security (Standard) or PrivateDLP (Pro). No license code is required, only a registered enterprise administrator Google account is needed to activate the 15-day unrestricted trial permission.

  1. Enter Client License Activation Panel
    Launch the installed client software, locate the key-shapedLicense tile in the Data Protection module on the main interface, and click to pop up the license configuration window.

  2. Submit Trial Information
    In the pop-up window, accurately enter the Google email address of the registered enterprise administrator console account.

  3. Initiate Trial Activation
    Click the Start Trial button, the client will automatically connect to the official server for verification.

  4. Complete Binding & Activation
    After the verification is passed, the system will automatically activate the 15-day full-feature trial qualification, and the endpoint will be automatically bound to the enterprise administrator’s web management console.

Trial Function Description: During the 15-day trial period, the client supports all core functions of the corresponding edition, including USB security protection, network control, device management (Standard Edition), and USB file transfer logging, AI productivity audit, intelligent violation detection (PrivateDLP Pro Edition), with no functional restrictions.

4. EXE Client Official License Activation Process

After the enterprise purchases the official authorization, the administrator can activate the permanent valid license for the EXE client through the purchased license code to replace the trial state.

  1. Open the client License configuration pop-up window again;

  2. Enter the enterprise administrator’s registered Google email address (consistent with the console login account);

  3. Fill in the official license code issued by the system after enterprise purchase;

  4. Click the Activate button to trigger online license verification;

  5. After the verification is successful, the client will complete official activation, automatically bind to the enterprise console, and upgrade from trial version to official full version.

5. Enterprise MSI Package Automatic Activation Mechanism (Difference Explanation)

For formal enterprise commercial deployment, we provide exclusive pre-authorized MSI installation packages for paid customers, which are completely different from the manual activation logic of EXE packages:

  • Built-in Enterprise Authorization: The enterprise MSI package is pre-embedded with the enterprise’s exclusive license and server binding information, no need for administrators to enter email or license code manually;

  • Zero-Manual Activation: After the MSI package is deployed and installed on the Windows endpoint (whether single-device installation or AD silent batch deployment), the client will automatically connect to the enterprise official server through the network;

  • Automatic Console Binding: The system automatically completes license verification, activation and device binding, and the endpoint will be automatically synchronized to the enterprise web management console;

  • Enterprise Batch Management: Administrators can directly view, manage and issue security policies for all MSI-deployed devices on the dashboard without any client-side operation.

6. Post-Activation Verification

After completing EXE trial or official activation, or MSI automatic activation, administrators can verify the deployment status through the web console:

  1. Log in to the enterprise web management dashboard;

  2. Enter the device list on the home page, check whether the target endpoint is online and the subscription status is Active;

  3. Confirm that the device can normally receive the policies issued by the console and synchronize monitoring data.

7. Common Activation Troubleshooting

  • Trial/Activation Failure: Confirm that the entered email is completely consistent with the registered console Google account, and the endpoint network can normally access the official server;

  • Device Not Displayed in Console: Restart the client to trigger heartbeat synchronization, or re-enter the account information for rebinding;

  • MSI Automatic Activation Failed: Check whether the endpoint network is normal, confirm that the MSI package is an official authorized enterprise version, and not a trial unofficial package.
