Free USB Drive Antivirus: Permanent Real-Time Protection Against USB-Borne Malware

Usage & Deployment Guides

USB removable drives remain one of the most common vectors for malware propagation, allowing threats to spread across air-gapped and networked systems alike. To address this pervasive risk, both USB Disk Security (Standard Edition) and PrivateDLP (Pro Edition) include a full-featured USB Drive Antivirus module — branded as USB Security — that is permanently free for all users. This built-in security layer delivers proactive, lightweight protection for Windows endpoints, with no subscription required to access its core threat defense capabilities.

Real-Time Threat Blocking via USB Shield

The core of the USB antivirus functionality is the USB Shield, which runs silently in the background with real-time monitoring enabled by default.

The moment a USB storage device is plugged into a Windows computer, USB Shield automatically scans its contents for malicious programs, autorun malware and other USB-borne threats, blocking dangerous code before it can execute or access system resources.

When a threat is detected, the USB Shield window immediately pops up to display a complete list of identified threats alongside their current status. Users can enable automatic threat deletion for fully hands-off protection, or manually review and remove threats on a case-by-case basis. The module also includes a Safe Open feature — the recommended way to access USB drives — which allows users to browse drive contents without triggering potentially malicious autorun scripts.

On-Demand Deep Scan with USB Scan

For comprehensive, user-initiated threat detection, the USB Scan tool provides on-demand scanning of connected USB drives. This function performs a deeper inspection of all files stored on the device to identify hidden malware, suspicious executables and other threats that may evade surface-level real-time checks.

Within the USB Scan interface, users can start or stop scans at any time, view a structured list of detected threats with their status, and delete individual threats or clear all identified risks in a single action. The module also includes USB Vaccine functionality, which disables the autorun feature on both the local PC and connected USB drives. This breaks the infection chain of classic autorun-based malware, preventing threats from launching automatically when a drive is inserted.

Encrypted Quarantine for Safe Threat Management

All flagged unsafe files are not permanently deleted by default — they are encrypted and moved to a secure Quarantine directory, containing active threats while protecting against accidental loss of legitimate files.

The Quarantine interface displays both the original file path and its quarantined location, giving full visibility into all contained items. Users and administrators can refresh the quarantine list, restore files that were incorrectly flagged as threats, or permanently empty the quarantine directory to remove all isolated threats.

A Free Foundation for Endpoint USB Security

This complete USB antivirus feature set is identical across both USB Disk Security and PrivateDLP, and remains permanently free with no feature locks, time limits or mandatory upgrades. It serves as the baseline USB security layer for both individual users and enterprise deployments.

For organizations requiring advanced data leak prevention, granular device and network control, file operation auditing, or AI-powered productivity analytics, the Standard and Pro editions offer additional enterprise-grade capabilities built on top of this free core protection.
